A Sigh and a Wish

High Hopes
An unique journey through Maritime folk culture and music.

A Sigh and A Wish is a feature documentary that tells the story of pioneer folklorist Helen Creighton and of the enduring appeal of her remarkable collections of story and song. For 60 years Creighton travelled alone throughout Maritime Canada in search of ghost stories, superstitions and tales of buried treasure, as well as songs handed down from generation to generation. In the end, Creighton helped define Maritime culture as we know it. Thanks to her, folk songs and stories moved out of the kitchens and the fishing boats and into the mainstream. Featuring performances by Pete Seeger, Raylene Rankin, Mary Jane Lamond, Lennie Gallant and others.

“This is wonderfully done documentary on a fascinating topic. Great authentic folk music with some modern renditions as a bonus.”
