The barbarians are at the gate! New documentary explores how fan culture is taking down the Hollywood system

Fanarchy airs July 9 at 8 p.m. ET on Epix in the U.S.

(Halifax, NS) July 1, 2015 – Whether it’s a shot-by-shot remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark (made by a group of kids), one woman’s effort to put her own stamp on her favorite superhero, or a devotee’s shockingly accurate continuation of the Star Trek series, fans are no longer passive viewers but – with affordable technology at their fingertips – are actively producing the kind of content they want to watch.

Fanarchy, a new feature documentary by Donna Davies, exposes this burgeoning landscape and the issues that potentially complicate it – copyright, intellectual property and the concept of originality in a remix culture.

Fanarchy makes its world premiere Thursday, July 9 – timed perfectly to coincide with that hotbed of fandom, San Diego Comic Con.
